Fire Safety Tips
Home Heating
Annually home fires are started and lives are lost each winter due to improperly maintained heating systems, inappropriate use of heating equipment and lack of working fire and carbon monoxide signaling devices. Its not to late to put the odds of survival on your side.
If you use gas or oil heat, have your home furnace inspected and cleaned by a qualified company. Burners, air intakes and filters need annual attention.
If you use baseboard or electric heaters, keep all combustible material and furnishings at least 24" away. Clean off accumulations of dust and dirt on heating elements before using for the first time for the heating season.
Wood stoves need attention also and should be inspected from the fire box to the china cap on the flue for damage, blockages or defective seals.
If you use oil, gas or wood to heat your home you should have carbon monoxide detectors installed alongside your smoke alarms. Carbon Monoxide is present when all things burn and it cannot be seen, smelled or tasted. Carbon Monoxide can reach dangerous levels quickly.
Be safe ...someone is counting on you!
